Thankful Tuesday and a give-away

Thankful Tuesday--

Sunrise in October, (photo not "fixed" in anyway.)
Today I am thankful for:

Friends at church who pray when they say they will and then check up on me to see how I'm doing.

A Heavenly Father who listens to our prayers about the mundane things of life.

New Twin Calves born healthy and hardy.

Fresh banana bread.

Beautiful sunshine and gentle breezes.

An old chair made "new" looking with just some paint.

Health and strength.

Fresh air to breath on my walk.

A 10-min. doze in the sunshine.

Freedom in this country to vote.

Encouragement and giggles via Texting with a dear friend.

A heater at my back on a chilly evening.

Supper out with my Blue-eyed Farmer.

I am a very blessed lady.

And now the give-away.... I was looking back and realized I started blogging on Nov. 8, 2006.  Almost 4 years ago!  I started on Zanga and came over to Blogger 2 years ago I think.
Anyway.... to show my appreciation to all my loyal readers, I'll be giving away an Amazon Gift Card (denomination to be determined very soon).  Just Comment here between today and 11:59 p.m. CST Nov. 8th.  I'll randomly draw a name and send out the gift card via snailmail, so be sure to give me some way of contacting you for your address.

Tell me how you found my blog.

And if you are curious to what I was thinking that first day, click the "Random Thoughts" button on the right hand side of the page and scroll down to Nov. 8, 2006.

Hugs!
Kay~

"I love to cook" is live now. Amish Sugar Cookies are there.

My page "I Love to Cook" is 'live' now.  You'll find my recipe for Amish Sugar Cookies there.  This is not the ideal format for recipes, but it'll work for now.

Happy Baking!

Confusing Everyone?

I'm sorry... I think I am confusing everyone this week.  I'm moving some old blog posts from my Xanga account over here to Blogger.  I'm trying to date them correctly, but I might have missed one or two.  And I know they are all coming up in your readers.

Again, I'm sorry.  Only about another 15 more months' worth and I'll have them all moved over.

Currently, it's HOT and HUMID here on the Prairie... it IS August after all.  (August 2010, that is.  lol)

We weaned all the spring calves.  Surprisingly it was a fairly painless process.  They only bawled for about 2 days.  It helped that we moved the cows to a different pasture so they stayed away from the gate.

My garden is a mess of weeds. All of my beds are struggling.  It's just too hot and miserable to deal with it now.  September is coming.

Other than that, I've been catching up with the farm bookwork and vacuuming up centipedes.  My life is so exciting I can hardly stand it.

Hoping yours is a little more interesting....

Hugs

MUST GO THRIFTING NOW!

Last year's Antique Market buys.

Ok.... word of warning....

If you are just craving a good flea market, estate sale, thrifting, etc....

Do NOT.... I repeat.... DO NOT..... Read this Blog by Miss Vintage Rescue Squad!

It is just too painful.

And DO NOT look at her photos.... (that one in particular but they all do me in....)

Because as she says.... Crap, her trash looks better than most people's yard sale stuff!!!

I'm "dying" here! I want that sweet little phone table, those garden chairs, that wicker basket, that white/pink tall cabinet in the distance looks intriguing and that plate rack..... all left at the curb last June!! **wailing and gnashing of teeth**

My only help with this depressing situation is that on Feb. 27 there is a Flea Market in the City and the annual Antique Market in March.
And I know my favorite seller has a new spot in a very accessible shop that I haven't scoped out yet.

Until then, it's time to put away all the wintery decorating and dig out what I've purchased in the past and USE IT! My kitchen, in particular is really bothering me. I am totally regretting that yellow paint decision. :o[ It is not going with the vintage image I have in my head at all.

Who loves to paint? Come on over and bring some light cream paint!

Anyone else desperate to go thrifting, antiquing this weekend?

Hugs
Kay~

Welcome!

Welcome Signs, Laem Tong Beach, Phi Phi Don Island, Thailand, Southeast Asia, Asia
Welcome Signs, Laem Tong Beach, Phi Phi Don Island, Thailand, Southeast Asia, Asia

I feel so honored....

Have you noticed the FEEDJIT Live list over on the right? Every so often I take a look at it "Live" just to see when you folks come by for a visit. (Want to be sure the cobwebs are dusted and the dust bunnies fed, you know. lol)

This time I noticed several new countries have been accounted for. Canada has been here before, but now I see, Italy! (Benvenuti!) and Iran!! (wow! ) and Wales!! (it's such a pretty language, but I have no idea how to pronounce any of it!)

I wonder what they (you) think of my little place in the world? Is it very different from yours? Do you have a blog too? Won't you be my neighbor and leave a comment, please?Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net

A new website addiction

I'll admit it... I get addicted to websites & blogs. There are so many super talented people out there, who inspire me in my day-to-day life.

First would be Facebook.... I know, I know. It's not technically a blog, but it keeps me in daily (sometimes hourly) contact with most of my favorite people. I probably wouldn't hear that our Pastor's dd was sick or that my dear friend in PA is having a pizza-for-lunch day otherwise. Just the randomness of it, makes me like it so much.
Search for me and if you want to be friends be sure and send a message along with the request telling me how I know you. If I don't recognize your name I won't accept the request. Sorry, but I've had to up my personal security. :o]

Second, I'm still addicted to Ree, The Pioneer Woman and Brin, of My Messy, Thrilling Life and Cat, RuthAnn, Linda, Tania, Clarice, PennyAnne, etc...etc....etc.... You can find most of them on my sidebar links.
If you do, you'll notice a theme.....quilts, cooking, farm/rural life, vintage, thrifting, Home, Family, God. All the things that make me tick. :oD

And finally, here is my latest addiction: The Farm Chicks . I preordered their "In the Kitchen" book. (Thanks Ds2 for the B&N gift card... it came in very handy!) I loved their blogsite at first glance. Aprons! Hay bales! QUILTS! Jeans. The Prairie (ok-- in Washington State, but still the prairie!) I want it to be summer so we can have a prairie party with hay/straw bales covered with quilts for seating & all the women wearing aprons.
Just go check it out. (The Prairie Party is HERE, on Country Living's website, another of my favorites!)

I know you all are waiting for photos of the girls and calves and such. Bear with me. We're calving still and taxes need to be completed and I'm trying to get my office organized since we got the new desk.

And to make you smile, I have Pansies blooming on my sunny, unheated back porch! I simply brought in my front walk pots when it got really cold and tucked them away on the porch. What a happy surprise to see those smiling "faces." My rosemary bush is doing wonderfully back there too, as is the curly parsley my neighbor gifted me with. I want to remember to pot up some thyme next fall. I miss having fresh sprigs.

Time for breakfast! Homemade raisin, cinnamon oatmeal, yogurt & pecans mixed in or saved for mid-morning snack.
We're trying to eat better after the over-indulgence of the holidays. A better breakfast, larger lunch and salad or smallish dinner. Cutting down on carbs (me) and lower fat (Farmer-dear).

Have a great Thursday and I'll be back soon with those photos!

HUGS!

Never too old to learn

Learning new things is always good. And I'm learning some html codes, learning about playlists, things like that.

Soon I want to find a free on-line basic digital photography class. I love my new camera and want to do more with it. Our local continuing ed classes offers this, but I have no free time in which to take those classes.

Today will be filled with cleaning the house, laundry, and then this afternoon, a Grain Truck Retrieval. No Nebraska game to listen to on the radio and I don't have any books on CD to listen to. It'll be along 2+ hours, following Farmer-Dear home. I'll have to pre-set the radio to all the Siruis talk stations. Martha Stewart, Fox Net, the "clean" comedy station.

Tomorrow I've already told F-d that I am hiding in my sewing room!! He's taken up most of my free time this past week with painting, mowing and other work. I'm going through fabric withdrawal!!

Oh and another new thing I'm learning.... Smiley Codes.... let's see if it works....Free Graphics

HA! YES!!! I did it!! Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net
(had to relearn which codes work for this... brain hurts now....)

I'll be cutting & pasting over to Xanga for a while. Just so my old readers know... The smileys may not work over there. I won't be fixing them.

HUGS!
Kay~
